Babbacombe Juniors Train At Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club
BCSC juniors were up early again this last weekend for another instalment with the South West Youth Training Academy. The weekend venue was Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club, a sailing club on the banks of Cheddar Reservoir.
This friendly club is nestled just under the Mendip Hills and is surrounded by beautiful views. With the weather being so nice, this was a stunning location for the weekends sailing. The reservoir is about two – three miles round so had plenty of space for the 40 plus juniors.
The main focus was all about the starts. They must have practised 20 – 30 starts over the weekend with most of them being in a marked up box, so to keep the juniors as close to the line as possible during the start sequence. They all did very well and really improved as the weekend went on. By the end, they were all on the line or just about when the race started.
The wind can be a bit tricky here as it swirls over the Mendips. Both Saturday and Sunday the wind picked up to about 15-20 knots, so the juniors had plenty of time to practise their capsizes whilst keeping us in the safety boats on our toes!
