You asked…We listened

Firstly, thank you to all our members who either attended our recent feedback evening or otherwise filled out our sailing questionnaires.

We have had lots of feedback. Some very positive, and some that maybe we can do a little bit better on. Needless to say, all the information gathered has been taken seriously and we will try our best to accommodate as much as possible going forwards into 2017.

Overwhelmingly, we were asked for:

  • more time on the water
  • more social sailing including picnic cruises to nearby beaches along with social suppers and BBQs
  • more training including refresher sessions. This was echoed by both novice sailors who are looking to gain more experience as well as our more established sailors who want to gain further knowledge in racing. It was also noted that our newer sailors would like the opportunity to crew for our long standing helms occasionally.
  • more racing with larger courses, prompt starts and more laps for the faster boat
  • more training including safety boat, beach master, registration and race officer refresher courses.

So what’s coming:-

We have already drafted our 2017 sailing programme, and although it has not been fully finalised,  we can say that our members will be getting much more opportunity to sail and learn.

Firstly, we will kick start our season off with planned weekly talks in our top clubhouse. These will be designed for both sailors and volunteers and will run from early 2017.

We plan to run sailing sessions on a Tuesday and Friday evening, selected Saturdays afternoons and every Sunday morning. We will have a set evening for racing and will accommodate this with a larger course weather permitting. There will be plenty of social sessions with some run alongside improver training as well as crewing opportunities. Remember that you are not obliged to race, and any sailor whatever your level will be able to get out on the water during any session.

During the summer we have penciled in Friday night fish and chip supper evenings and also a monthly Sunday social event.

Our juniors will have weekly training and BCSC will continue to support any junior in the Southwest youth training scheme.

Our training programme will run from February and will include: refresher training in Beach Master, Registration, Radio and Race Officer at the top clubhouse.  We will also have a first aid training course in March as well as powerboat courses and refresher dinghy training courses from April.

We feel that 2017 will be a great year for sailing at BCSC. Yes we plan to bring in new sailors with entry level courses but most importantly we remember that we already have so many sailors and want to offer you the very best programme giving ample opportunity to learn, socialise or race.

Check back early 2017 when we will post the full sailing calendar.
