Activities at Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club have become just a little bit safer after the club was given its own in-house defibrillator.
The portable machine was given by the Robert Allen Life Promotion and Healthy Hearts Trust. The trust takes its name from the late Robert Allen who was a National Schools’ Rowing Champion and a respected rowing coach.
He died of a shock heart attack in August 2018, aged just 35, while in Torbay preparing for a sailing holiday.
A defibrillator is used to shock a heart back to a normal heartbeat after a cardiac arrest.
Ralph’s father Richard, chairman of the trust, personally delivered the defibrillator to the clubhouse on Oddicombe Beach, where he gave Vice-Commodore Neil Mander and swimming section leader Amelia Hall a brief introduction to the equipment.
