The first event in the new sea swimming series at Oddicombe proved to be a huge success, with 35 swimmers taking part in a fantastic evening of open water swimming.
Organised by Amelia Hall and supported by a dedicated team of volunteers and safety staff, the event brings together swimmers of all abilities.
A huge amount of work went into making the event happen safely and smoothly. Special thanks were given to the BCSC safety team, along with Grant, Peter, Neil, Mandy, Denise and the volunteer registration team, including Anita Merritt, Naomi and Victoria Hindley. Support on the water also came from Victoria’s son Fin, who helped provide paddleboard and kayak cover throughout the swim.
The course itself measured close to 900-950 metres per lap, with swimmers completing either one or two laps depending on the category entered. Conditions at Oddicombe provided a brilliant setting for the event, with plenty of encouragement from supporters and fellow swimmers creating a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish.
Open water swimming continues to grow in popularity across the UK, and events like this show exactly why. The combination of community spirit, fitness, challenge and the stunning coastal backdrop made for a memorable evening for everyone involved.
Well done to all 35 swimmers who took part. The series has certainly started on a high.
