2011 Regatta, amendments to sailing instructions.

1 Saturday races are abandoned due to the forecast of high gusting winds.

2 The first race warning signal on Sunday races will be 30 minutes earlier at 09:55

3 Three series races are planned for Sunday, each being of approximately 45 minutes duration.

4 There will be a 60 minute pursuit race starting at 14:00.

Urgent Theft Warning

Some time between Sunday (29th May) morning and the following Tuesday evening a kayak was stolen from the compound. It was padlocked to the railing and it appears bolt cutters were used and the kayak lifted over the railings. Most of the kayaks are have been stored in the buildings alongside the cafe during the recent cliff work but a few remained in the compound and we’re not sure if more than one was taken. If one of the compounded boats is yours can you check as soon as possible to see if it’s still there and notify Nik or Ken and the police if it’s not. If your kayak is still in the compound you need to ensure its safety and in the light of what’s happened it may be that padlock and chain isn’t enough. Unfortunately the club can’t be responsible for the insurance or security of any property.

The club is considering security options but it’s difficult to know what further steps to take given the location.

Summer Cricket Matches

This summer’s Friday evening cricket matches fire up with the Young uns v. Old (ish) uns, this Friday 16th July. A list has been put up on the club house notice board for players to sign on but if you can’t make it to the clubhouse, just turn up at the Babbacombe Cricket Club on Walls Hill in time for a 6pm start.

Announcing the 184th Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club Regatta

Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club is proud to announce the BCSC Sailing Regatta, now in its 184th year, which will take place on the weekend of 12th and 13th June. There will be a 3 race series, 2 races Saturday, 1 race Sunday; a Junior Series, running back to back with the 3 race Series and the Silver Pursuit race following the final series race on Sunday.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, The Cary Arms, Torquay Real Estate and the Cliff Railway Cafe we will be offering prizes this year: £100 and £150 respectively for the Series and the Pursuit and a selection of prizes, yet to be decided, for the Junior Series.

Registration will be 10:15 – 11:15, Sat and 9:15 – 9:45 Sun at the Beach Clubhouse, Oddicombe Beach.

More Pig Racing. Wednesday 13th May …8ish

Following the success of the pig racing evening on behalf of local Rotary charities, we are holding another on Wednesday 13th May, starting after 8pm; first race about 8:15 (but come at 7:30 in case you want to check out the form of the pigs before others get there). “Red Rock” is this week’s Real Ale.

All are welcome – bring friends; children are of course very welcome. You can bet (50p) on the pigs and/or be a pig race owner for £5. The 6 pigs will race on the flat, under the jumps, on a slalom course and there will be a special “Squealer” race to finish.

There will be a raffle and also a pig related bingo quiz and, of course, loosing pigs will be served up as a hot dog supper.
