This year’s race programme is now online (racing-schedule-2010).
There’s no doubt that in the summer we’ll get better sailing in the afternoon, once the sea breezes have had a chance to build so we’ve included some Saturday afternoon racing, just to see how it goes.
In an attempt to siphon some of the experience down to the less able parts of the fleet we’re including one buddy race in each series where an experienced sailor will partner a less experienced one. We’ll be discussing the details at the pre-season Cox and Crew meeting (Wed. 3rd March, 8:15pm at the Fore St. Club house).
The first race will be on Saturday 3rd April, 2:45pm start. Note …. Saturday … Because it’s Easter weekend and most people like reserve Easter Sunday for chocolate overdose.
And finally, don’t forget we have two Saturday working parties, 9:30-12:30, 13th March and 27th March.
The sailing season is almost upon us. With this in mind there will be a pre-season Cox and Crew meeting at the Fore St. Clubhouse on Wednesday 3rd March at 8:15. Items for discussion are:
- Buddy up racing. Nik proposes that one, or possibly more, race in each series be a buddy race where an experienced sailor teams up and coaches a less experienced sailor. We have a good idea how this should work but we’d still like to have a short discussion and allocate buddies.
- Working parties. There will be 2 pre-season working parties, one on Sat 13th March the other on Sat 27th March, both between 9:30 and 12:30. Many hands make light work.
- General discussion on all things racing; is there anything you’d like to change or add to racing this season.
Please try and be there if you can.
In past years, sailing at BCSC has ended around September time. This year we thought we’d see how some winter sailing went down and we’re going to extend Sunday sailing to December on a fortnightly basis. This is very much an experiment based on no more than a straw poll of random members, the result of which was encouraging. If it works out, and if there’s enough support, we may look at taking it beyond Christmas.
Schedule

Saturday night was Halloween night at the clubhouse when kids and adults alike put on silly costumes and traipsed around St Marychurch’s streets and churchyards looking for cardboard bones and cheap frights. Death stalked the streets looking for something for tea, prizes were won, laughs and a good time were had by all.
